Sweet Sugar Land In Home Newborn Lifestyle Session | Houston Newborn Photographer

Dear Marlowe Photography • Houston, TX Baby Photographer

There are two types of just-popped-out-a-human mamas out there; those who struggle to find the motivation to leave the house for any and everything and those who can’t escape fast enough. I was the latter. Three days post-birth I was strolling the aisles of Kroger where I encountered overly fretful old ladies advising that the freezer section was too cold for all 10 pounds of baby Sawyer. But if there’s one thing we can all agree on as new moms, having someone come to OUR home and take our photos without us having to lift a finger (or a baby) is quite—shall I say—divine. In home newborn lifestyle sessions are comfortable, casual, personal, and best of all, within walking distance to the fridge and that Frosé you have left over from your pre-baby partying days (and nights)

As a lover and photographer of in home newborn lifestyle sessions, there are a few tips and tidbits I offer all my clients. First and foremost, we are on baby’s time. Let me repeat that. That new baby you love so much? They’re in charge. Session can last anywhere from a magical, glorious, perfect hour, to as long as three house. Sessions may even be cut short if baby is uncooperative (read: comfort nursing marathons, colicky coo coo crazies, tantrum filled toddlers, and overall, the stars just simply not aligning). Aside from bumps in the road, in home newborn sessions are simply something so personal you just can’t get anywhere else. What more perfect place to display images of your home life than in your own home.

In home newborn lifestyle sessions not only capture your family in their own element, but mama, they capture that beautiful nursery you swore you wouldn’t obsess over (and did). If you’re anything like me, you poured blood, sweat, and mid century furniture into that room. You cried the day your baby girl said she wanted a Trolls themed bedding set instead of your custom Etsy comforter. You painstakingly lost sleep over which gray paint had the most perfect undertone for your sweet cherub of a little boy’s walls. And you spent countless hours assembling a room you never realized your baby wouldn’t sleep in for the first 6 months of their life (HELLLOOOO ARMS REACH). But that room, that room is where you rocked your that baby in your belly as you wondered what their laugh may sound like. That room is where you spent nearly 9 months waiting, oh so patiently for them to arrive. That room is the first tangible thing that said, this baby is real. Let an in home newborn lifestyle session capture that place, and above all, capture your little one as you welcome them to the house you have finally made a home.

To prepare for you in home newborn lifestyle session, take all the extra time you have and tidy up the place for picture perfect, well, pictures. Laughing yet? While you sit and pump/nurse/cry uncontrollably/search high and low for Spanx/etc., give your handy mother-in-law a call and let her do the heavy lifting. All jokes aside, I know how hard it is to get anything done with a new baby. Throw a few toddlers in the mix and it’s like World War III. A clutter free home does photograph best, but as your in home newborn session expert, that’s what I’m there for. I’ll notice the details that may need a little adjusting. I’ll take care of the not so picture perfect with my own two hands. And when those fail, well, then there’s photoshop.

Lastly, dress comfortably but also not too casual. I absolutely love when families opt for a wardrobe change as it gives variety to your session and can better meld with the different rooms we photograph. Loose, flowy dresses are a wonderful option for not only post-baby bodies, but also ease of nursing during our session—because let’s be real, baby can E. A. T. Dad always looks great in comfy jeans or casual khakis paired with a not too stuffy button-up. And Kiddos are sweet in just about anything, amiright! I love mixing neutral tones, layering in fabrics, and offering styling advice for all my families. Some of my favorite (affordable) brands and shops are ASOS, Morning Lavendar, Target, H&M, and Zara. Simply put, your wardrobe can make or break the look and feel of your in home newborn lifestyle session. But don’t stress; I’m here to help : )
